Craniosacral Biodynamics is a gentle holistic non-manipulative method that supports the inherent life forces in the body and assists it in its return to balance and natural harmony.

It is about working with the whole system of the organism and it is oriented to Health and the inherent resources of the human being. It is assisting the return to equilibrium of the body, the spirit and the being as a whole.

The principle of "Inherent Health" and the "Breath of Life"

Everywhere in nature, life expresses itself in patterns of Health and vitality. Each tree is searching for the sun with its leaves and branches to reach the food they need. In each specific form of life, there is a pattern that carries its specific vitality signature. It is the same with the human system. Very subtle and refined patterns of vitality are constantly expressing to maintain our Health and bring us back to Health.

In particular, CranioSacral Biodynamics works with the cerebrospinal fluid ("liquor") that protects and nourishes the Central Nervous System. The subtle motion of this fluid can be perceived in each tissue of the body. It is similar to a gentle inhalation and exhalation, or slow and deep tide. Hence it is called the "Breath of Life"

This "Primary Respiration" is more subtle and deep than our breathing. It has a healing quality and carries in it a spark of the force of life.

A trained practitioner can perceive the rhythm of Primary Respiration and uses it to evaluate the actual state of a person. She will simply assist the client to find a new balance between its healthy resources and any restrictions that are held in the tissues of the body. In this way the body can heal itself and the potency of the fluids can permeate all cells once again.

How does a session unfold ?

During a session, the client is lying down on a massage table. The practitioner uses a very gentle touch to perceive the subtle flow of the forces of life in the body of the client.

In the same moment, she also perceives the individual history of the client - with his particular conditions, trauma or pathologies.

Out of a space of Stillness, she listens and supports with her hands the system in its search for returning to its natural balance.

The practitioner is positioned only as an assistant to Primary Respiration so that a new equilibrium between the resources of health and the restrictions held in the tissues of the body can be found. So the body can heal itself, and the potency of the fluids can again filter in each cell and organ.

Background of Craniosacral Biodynamics

The approach of Craniosacral Biodynamics reaches back to the beginning of the 1900s when Dr William Garner Sutherland, an American osteopath and pioneer in the cranial field, first developed and applied the work with the mechanism of Primary Respiration.

Since then, many skilled practitioners have both deepened and shared their exploration and experience, refining one of the most delicate healing arts to an exquisite level.

Around the 70s, this work has opened up and been taught to a larger audience of therapists and people outside the initial osteopatic community.

This has led the Craniosacral work to take its independence as a fully holistic approach in itself. The Biodynamic approach is a pioneer in this way, but deeply inspired by the understanding of the founding fathers.
